Young entrepreneur launches painting business to service West Columbia, Lexington

Caitlin Qualman is a 25-year-old who hails from Wisconsin and even went to school there. However, about two years ago she made the move to South Carolina, and is about to launch her own business in the Midlands.

In her words, she “always hated the cold,” and “really loved the Carolina(s) area.” She also described herself as someone who could not sit down at a cubicle all day. So, she decided to pursue her dream of becoming a business owner.

Qualman studied Marketing in school and said she fell in love with business, and the idea of owning her own business. Once she graduated and moved, Qualman gained valuable experience while working at Sherwin-Williams in their management training program.

“It was really good insight on how to own every aspect of a business,” she said. “We had training on the financial side, the marketing side, the hiring side, everything.”

Fresh Coat Painters reached out to Qualman after seeing her LinkedIn profile, and asked her about franchising. Thanks to her senior thesis in school, she was already aware of the benefits franchising offered. “It’s a really good option for people who want to own their own business but want a little extra support,” she added.

Qualman chose to accept the offer. She has been meeting with Fresh Coat Painters since February and is currently in the process of getting all her certifications squared away and hiring painters.

According to Fresh Coat’s President, Tara Riley, the onboarding process usually takes about eight weeks. Qualman is the youngest franchisee in the Fresh Coat Painter’s family of about 147 locations. This specific Fresh Coat Painters franchise will service West Columbia, Lexington, Pelion, Gaston and Thor. The business will offer residential and commercial painting. Their launch will be Thursday, July 11 at the Business Lexpo in Lexington, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
